Assist. Prof Işıl Oygür from Ozyegin University will be giving a seminar titled “Design research from academy to practice” on Friday May 11th 2018 on 14:00, as part of ID 480 Design Management seminars. We are looking forward to see all of you who are interested at Kubbealtı. Isil Oygur is an assistant professor of industrial design at Ozyegin University. She received a PhD from Individual Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program at Washington State University, a Master of Science from Department of Industrial Product Design, Istanbul Technical University, and a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University. Her research interests focus on design anthropology, digital interactions, generative research, user-centered design, and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Recent journal publications include “The Machineries of User Knowledge Production” (Design Studies, 2018) and “Exploring Mobility & Workplace Choice in a Flexible Office through Post-Occupancy Evaluation” (with Ö. Göçer, K. Göçer & E. Karahan, Ergonomics, 2018).

Call for Tracks DRS LEARN X DESIGN 2019 Fifth International Conference for Design Education Researchers 9-12 July 2019, METU, Ankara We are happy to announce that Middle East Technical University Department of Industrial Design is hosting the DRS Learn X Design 2019: Fifth International Conference for Design Education Researchers between 9-12 July 2019. This conference series is an event of the DRS Special Interest Group in Design Pedagogy (https://www.designresearchsociety.org/cpages/design-pedagogy-sig). The conference theme is “Insider Knowledge” and we hope to explore the following topics. Designing the UX at Arçelik

Focused on experience design, product-user interaction and interface design parallel to his Master’s Thesis studied at ITU Department of Industrial Design and worked on display and interface design projects within Arcelik. As UX/UI Design Manager, he is leading the team which is responsible for UX studies of the entire product range of Arcelik A.S.

Tuğra Erol (PhD) will be giving a seminar called "Visual Language Theory & Practice in Automotive Design: Behold the Paradigm Shift!" in Kubbealtı, Friday December 29th at 12:30. Tuğra Erol is a research associate in Automotive Design and Human Factors based in Coventry University’s National Transport & Design Centre which is a part of the Research Institute for Future Transport and Cities. He holds three Master degrees, first two from METU in Industrial Design and Engineering Sciences and another Master’s degree in Car and Transportation design from Scuola Politecnica di Design (SPD, Milano). Having recently completed his PhD in Industrial Design from Coventry University, he is now actively engaged with clients including ADIENT plc in applied design research with particular focus on automotive seat design. His research interests include the role of visual appearance on the perception of automotive seating comfort and designing for comfort in shared and automated vehicles (SAV).

METU Department of Industrial Design Showcased at Global Grad Show 2017 Dubai

METU Department of Industrial Design showcased two graduation projects at Global Grad Show which is the largest ever student gathering, representing 92 of the world’s best design schools, from 43 countries on 6 continents that took place at Dubai Design Week, between 14-18 November 2017. The projects were grouped under the headings of empower, connect and sustain. Mert Yıldız’s Fellow: a medical product that tracks the fever of children was exhibited under the theme of “connect" and Damla Özekici’s Epilink: An adrenaline injector that anyone can use as exhibited under the theme of “empower”. Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali O. İlhan will be giving a seminar called "What do I do with Quantitative Data: Design Research, Sociology and Interdisciplinarity" in U-Test R21, Wednesday November 29th at 12:30. Ali O. Ilhan is an assistant professor of Industrial Design/Design, Technology and Society (DTS) at Ozyegin University (OzU) in Istanbul. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in industrial design from Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He also serves as the co-director of graduate studies for DTS MSc and PhD programs at OzU. Ali completed his PhD in sociology at Washington State University (WSU) in 2013. His research interests include longitudinal/hierarchical data analysis, social network analysis, science and technology studies, sociology of education, sociology of design, and critical studies of interdisciplinarity. 

METU ID at Design Week Turkey 2017

Middle East Technical University, Department of Industrial Design conducted an exhibition called "Scenarios for Future Needs of Industry". This exhibition presents a series of university-industry collaboration projects carried out in the final year design studio in mainly 2017, with their scenarios of use. Design Week Turkey, embarking on its journey to bring design and all industries together, brings forward the theme of “Potentials of Design” in its second year. Design Week Turkey, which is an essential platform to raise awareness of the power of design, to create a design culture and to emphasize on the potential of the contributions both to our economy and our civilization by introducing Turkish Designers globally and providing competitive advantage, is organized this year at Lütfi Kırdar International Convention & Exhibition Center between November 8th and 12th, 2017 with a comprehensive program again by Republic of Turkey Ministry of Economy and Turkey Exporters Assembly.
