METU Department of Industrial Design participated an international collaborative research project funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AH/P006191/1), in response to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, in which methods of co-design and industrial design were used to identify new product opportunities that utilise indigenous material resources and crafts. Through creative product design thinking, 40 diverse product concepts with the potential to support an export-based supply chain have been identified and visualized. The project has been conducted in Loughborough University. In addition to the Middle East Technical University, the project has been supported by academics from, University of Nairobi (Kenya), Bandung Institute of Technology (Indonesia) and Kampala University (Uganda). Inspired by the ramps placed next to the stairs, this project works like an elevator that decreases its incline as it goes upwards and can be applied on stairs up to 150cm in height. With paralel elevation technique, the user can rise as high as needed without any discomfort.
