Oya is an Associate Professor at UNSW. She received her MSc (Building Sciences) from the Middle East Technical University, her PhD from Bilkent University - Interior Architecture and Environmental Design; and her second PhD from Marmara University – Industrial Design. She was the Director of MID and MSc (IndDes) Postgraduate Programs in the Industrial Design Program (2002-05), and the Program Head for the Industrial Design Program (2006-09) Faculty of the Built Environment, University of New South Wales, Sydney – Australia. Her professional experience includes appointments as instructor in Product Design, Art Centre College of Design (Europe); free lance designer, Bern/Switzerland; Research Assistant, Instructor, and Assistant Professor in the Industrial Design Department, Middle East Technical University, Ankara - Turkey; Adjunct Lecturer, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Industrial Design, the University of New South Wales, Faculty of the Built Environment, Industrial Design Program. Her current research and teaching include design studio, universal design, participatory design, designing for ageing, and emotional design.
