Research Areas

I am currently working on the following topics: sensory modalities and their integration to wellbeing; positive technologies; sports and physical activity related products and services; simple playful form-development methods.

PhD and MSc students, who are motivated to conduct research in these topics and the following three areas under my supervision can e-mail me to discuss about opportunities – but, I’m also open to exciting topics that would be proposed by you!

● DESIGN FOR HEALTH & WELLBEING

Increases in the world’s aging population, alongside problems of obesity sedentary lifestyles, and stress are placing great demands on healthcare systems. In parallel to this, there is a growing interest in exploring the potential of technologies to promote and realize wellbeing. Nowadays, many people use smart devices and apps for monitoring their body and taking control of their nutrition and fitness. My research in this area is looking at the opportunities for new and emerging technologies to enhance people’s wellbeing.

● DESIGN FOR RICH PRODUCT EXPERIENCES

This area of research focuses on ways of using people’s senses to deliver richer product experiences. Examples include designing products that are more engaging, enjoyable, meaningful, memorable, etc. Multisensorial interaction is an important part of this research area, implying designing for touch, sound and other senses alongside visual appearance. Contemporary CAD modelling and 3D printing technologies facilitate the creation of highly complex product geometries and surfaces that can contribute to enriching the user experience.

● DIGITALIZATION OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGN PROCESSES
