We are pleased to share that two of our student teams presented their projects at the TEKNOFEST 2025 finals!
Both teams competed in the “Barrier-Free Living Technologies” category, representing our department and the industrial design discipline in the finals for the first time, within an event largely dominated by engineering fields.
The students reached the finals after a multiple-stage evaluation process that began in February. The week-long event was open to the public and welcomed one million of visitors.
‘MOSPY’, developed by Serhat Sorgusormaz (team leader), Aylin Aygün, Deniz Özel, and Firuze Şenyurt, is a customisable mobility vehicle designed to support the comfort, motivation, and mobility of young cancer patients during hospital stays. ‘BrailleSteps’, developed by Rümeysa Aygündüz (team leader), Sema Betül Akkurt, Zhala Imamova, and Beste Toprak, is an interactive mat that helps visually impaired children learn Braille through movement, sound, and play. Both teams were supervised by Prof. Dr. Bahar Şener-Pedgley following on from projects born in the third year industrial design studio at METU ID.
The projects showed strong potential for real-world application and invite collaboration!
