A seminar by Değer Demircan Acılıoğlu: In-house Design Practice in Turkey

Değer Demircan Acılıoğlu was born in 1980 at Düzce, grown up in Bolu, entered and lived in Ankara Science High School between 14-17 ages, heard about Industrial Design when she was in high school, loved the idea of being a designer while searching for the best fit for her future, finished METU Industrial Design Department in 4 years, finished her master of science in the same department in the upcoming 3 years.
She started her Professional career as a part time designer in Arçelik company Bolu Factory, one of the youngest employee and the one and only female designer there. Started working in Arcelik Industrial Design Department in 2004, focusing on mainly cooking appliances at first years. She designed the first "family look" built-in products for Arcelik and Blomberg brands, including more than hundred designs in total. She designed Glass door refrigerator, the first Glass door appliance to be produced in Turkey. She then changed then upscaled her design scope and started in retail and fair design management in Arçelik Company Headquarter. She managed the largest global fair design and execution projects in Turkey, with IFA Beko and Grundig booths, almost 2600 metersquares both. She updated Arçelik and Beko Retail Design Guideline to be applied in almost 3000 stores in TR. She prepared global retail & shop in sho & fair design guidelines for Beko and Grundig, including almost 300 designs.
In 2017, she starting working in Bosch Siemens Hausgerate Company, responsible for Bosch, Siemens and Profilo household appliances design and establishment of local design hub in Istanbul. Onboarded in Munich headquarter for a while, moved back to Istanbul and initiated design activites with a focus on user centric design perspective.
Experienced design management in a global design network till 2021, she then started working in Şişecam as Head of Glassware Design. Reorganised the design team with a fresh look, enlarged the teams focusing on glassware and surrounding design activites including packaging design, accessories and color design, sustainable materials research and design. She has the responsibility of all global Paşabahçe, Nude, Borcam and Paşabahçe Stores design portfolio, and delivering all design data for each item. She is nowadays interested in digitalisation of design, how to integrate new tools and abilities into design management processes.
