As a part of the ID561 Product Design for Sustainability course, Onur Barış Zafer will give a seminar titled "Why Do Users Fall out of Love with Their Products? Exploring the Vulnerabilities of Emotionally Durable Design Strategies in Consumer Electronics." The seminar will take place on Thursday, 23 October 2025, at 13:45 in the Kubbealtı Hall of the Faculty of Architecture. Everyone interested is welcome to attend.
Onur Barış Zafer is a PhD candidate at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He is part of a research project focused on slowing down premature obsolescence in consumer electronics to reduce electronic waste by strengthening the values consumers perceive in their products. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial design from Middle East Technical University, Türkiye, where he also worked as a research assistant. His master's thesis examined everyday consumer practices that prevent food waste at home and how such practices can be promoted to wider audiences. His current research explores the vulnerabilities of design strategies for emotionally durable products, combining qualitative methods with his broader interest in design for sustainability and behavior change.
