The next research seminar of this semester, “A Conversation on Postgraduate Study in Design”, will be delivered by İdil Gaziulusoy on 26th December, 2012, between 12.30 – 13.30 in Kubbealtı at METU Faculty of Architecture. Abstract: There are different “genres” in how design research understood and implemented at postgraduate level in different schools around the world. The aim of this session is to initially provide an overview of how design research is carried out at postgraduate level at School of Design, Auckland University of Technology where the presenter is working as a member of academic staff. This will be compared with the research tradition in Industrial Design Department of Middle East Technical University, where the presenter received her M.Sc. degree from. Then a discussion on strengths and weaknesses of different approaches will be facilitated by the presenter and active participation of staff and students is expected. About the presenter: Dr. Idil Gaziulusoy received her M.Sc. degree from the Department of Industrial Design, Middle East Technical University. She carried out her PhD study at the University of Auckland specialising in design and innovation for sustainability. Currently she is a lecturer at Auckland University of Technology teaching design in School of Art and Design and School of Business both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is going to undertake the Program Leadership role of Master of Design at the same university from 2013.
